PRODUCT
PWF Butyl is a one-component, thixotropic, non-flowing butyl rubber based sealing compound for use in Preserved Wood Foundation Systems requiring outstanding weather resistance and permanent flexibility.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
COMPOSITION:    Butyl rubber base.
APPLICATIONS:   PWF Butyl Sealant is recommended for the following application types:
a)  General purpose caulking of joints and seams
b)  Between top plates & between bottom plate & footing
c)  To seal polyethylene moisture barriers

PWF Butyl will not sag from vertical or overhead joints.  The sealant cures through the evaporation of volatile solvent to a permanently soft and flexible mass, having exceptional adhesion to most common construction substrates without priming.
LIMITATIONS:  PWF Butyl Sealant is not recommended for sealing large joints which may have considerable movement.  These type of expansion and/or contraction joints should be sealed with Thioplast polysulphide sealant.
PACKAGING: PWF Butyl Sealant is available in spouted cartridges and 20 litre pails.

STORAGE LIFE:   PWF Butyl Sealant has a minimum shelf life of 6 months when stored in unopened containers at temperatures below 72o F.
COLOR:   PWF Butyl Sealant is stocked in grey only.
APPLICABLE STANDARDS:   PWF Butyl Sealant meets and exceeds the requirements of Federal Specification TT-S-001657 Type 1, AAMA808.3, CGSB19-GP-14M.

Tack Free Time -  24 hour maximum
Cure Time -  Ultimate properties are reached in 14 days at 75o F

Stain  -  Nonstaining
Adhesion -  Good to excellent to common building materials
Weight per litre -  2.96 lbs

These properties are typical, but should not be used in specifying material, due to differences which could result from variations in testing methods.

INSTALLATION
DIRECTIONS:   Surfaces must be clean, free of dust, dirt, mill scale and other foreign material.
APPLICATION:   Apply a generous bead of PWF Butyl between the plywood joints; between the top plates; and between the bottom plate and footing.  It can also be used to seal polyethylene moisture barriers by applying a bead at the lap joints.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: PWF Butyl Sealant contains volatile solvent.  Store and use this sealant away from  heat sources, sparks or flames.
HEALTH PRECAUTIONS:   Adequate ventilation should be afforded to prevent excessive inhalation of solvent. Normal personal hygiene practices such as washing after exposure to the sealant should be observed.  The sealant may be harmful if ingested and a physician should be summoned immediately.

MAINTENANCE
REPAIR:  If part of a seal is damaged, cut out the damaged portion and, making sure no contaminants are present re-seal with new material.  The new sealant will adhere very well to the old sealant mass providing the surface is clean and dry.
