DESCRIPTION
Tapeseal 404 is an extruded gray butyl rubber tape sealant.  It is a tough, rubber, pressure sensitive mass, which features excellent adhesion to a variety of surfaces.  Tapeseal 404 is currently being used in architectural applications where its high adhesion to glass, and to metal make it an ideal glazing and sealing tape.  Test assemblies fabricated with Tapeseal 404 have been exposed at temperatures of -40o F with little change in the physical properties of the bonded assembly when returned to room temperature.  Tapeseal 404 will not sag or flow when tested at temperatures up to and including 250o F.

END USE
Tapeseal 404 is used as a sealing compound to seal out dirt, dust, moisture and/or water.  It is used in sealing operations involving dissimilar materials, where in view of its aggressive tack and high specific adhesion, the product is highly functional in sealing materials having different co-efficients of expansion.  Of prime importance is its low moisture vapor transmission value; a requirement in any sealing application.  The Perm Rating is 0.168.

METHOD OF APPLICATION
Since Tapeseal 404 is supplied in tape form, the mechanic simply applies the ribbon of tape to the area which is to be sealed, presses firmly along the entire length of the release paper backing, cuts the tape to length and removes the release paper.  The Tapeseal 404 sealing strip is then ready to receive the other sealing member.  It is recommended that spacer blocks be used every 12″ around the perimeter of the sealing area.  The spacer blocks should be 1/16″ thinner than the sealing tape being employed.  Once the blocks and tape are in place and panel is installed, some kind of tension must be applied to the assembly to maintain a slight positive pressure on the sealant.  In some installations this is done with spring clips or rubber wedges.  No primer system is required with this product.  It is important to note that the sealing surfaces must be clean and dry, free of oil, dirt and moisture.  Should void filling be required, the Tapeseal 404 may be rolled into a ball and “stuffed” into the depression to be filled.

For heel beads on jobsite applications, we recommend our Acrylast or Butylin sealants.  For shop glazing we recommend our Latacalk Acrylic Latex sealant for heel and/or toe beads.
